Network Newstead is a community run wireless network operating in centralNewstead Victoria. The network is owned and operated by the local community for residents and tourists. Although the service is free, some limits apply. Sessions are limited to 30 minutes and a limit of 50Mb of data transfer applies per session.

The free Network Newstead service is generally available from the "bridge to the butchers" on Lyons Street (the main drag) and around the RTC. Additional access points are planned. Currently access points are located at:

Software

The routers run OpenWRT on a Compact Flash card, while access is controlled by WiFiDog. We use our own WiFiDog protocol authentication server, WiFiPup, which was written by local resident Dave Hall.
